The Canavese Territory - Turin
Acini E Rose Guest House
Are you looking for NATURE? Here's what awaits you!
The Gran Paradiso National Park, the first national park in Italy, is a hiking paradise, with kilometers of paths that retrace the Royal Hunting Roads. Here, ibex, chamois, marmots and golden eagles live freely and can be easily seen and photographed with the collaboration of the park rangers.
There are other protected areas such as the Monti Pelati, the Sacro Monte di Belmonte, the Natural Park of Lake Candia, the area of the 5 Lakes of Ivrea, but the whole of the Canavese area, in reality, presents extraordinary environments and landscapes: the Morainic Amphitheater of Ivrea, with one of the longest moraines in Europe, the Dora Baltea Valley, the Sacred Valley, the Valchiusella, the Alto Canavese.
Each of these places represents a piece of our life for us: a school trip, a picnic with friends, peaceful moments with parents and children. It will be easy for us to tell you about them and make them familiar to you: for this reason we have created a section dedicated to excursions and walks, with over 20 proposals to do independently, just choose to be our guests to have the dedicated guides for free..
Are you passionate about OUTDOOR sports?
You are in the right place: a “playground” widespread!
The Canavese is a splendid natural gym where you can practice all outdoor sports, just a few kilometers from Turin. We have long-distance regional trekking itineraries such as the Grande Traversata delle Alpi, the Alta Via Canavesana, the Giroparco Gran Paradiso, the Alta Via dell'Anfiteatro Morainico, the Via Francigena, the Sentiero delle Pietre Bianche and wild routes in Valchiusella which you can travel independently or accompanied by hiking and nature guides.
Many of these routes are also ideal for mountain bikes, while the low-traffic road network lends itself to bicycle or e-bike outings.
For rock sports, the Orco and Soana Valleys, and Valchiusella in particular, are the cradle of sport climbing, while there are numerous mountaineering routes. In winter the mountain offers cross-country skiing in Ceresole Reale and snowshoeing.
For lovers of strong emotions, you can fly safely with the Frassinetto zip-line or, for enthusiasts, practice free flight departing from Brosso or Santa Elisabetta. There are numerous waterways where you can go canoeing, kayaking and rafting; the basin of Lake Candia is perfect for rowing, while on Lake Ceresole you can practice windsurfing.
Do you love HISTORY, CULTURE and ART in all its forms?
Villages, castles and retreats await you to transport you back in time!
In Canavese there are 4 UNESCO sites:
- Ivrea industrial city of the 20th century with the architectural treasures of the Olivetti period,
- the Sacred Mount of Belmonte with its sanctuary,
- the Castle of Agliè, part of the Savoy Residences,
- the prehistoric pile-dwelling areas of Viverone and Montalto Dora, located on their respective lakes.
The major towns are Ivrea, Chivasso, Rivarolo Canavese and Cirié: it is pleasant to walk through the streets of the centre, very often full of suggestive views and ancient porticoes overlooked by shops, cafes and restaurants.
The entire territory is dotted with small villages and in many of them there is a castle, a noble palace, a medieval shelter, some of which can be visited, others only a scenic "backdrop"; several have preserved welcoming historic centers that reserve pleasant surprises at every corner: Mazzé with the castle and the viewpoint over the Dora Baltea, Romano Canavese with the Torre Park, Aglié with the ducal palace of the Savoy and Villa Meleto of the poet Guido Gozzano, Torre Canavese , "town of art" with its open-air art gallery, Caravino with the park and castle of Masino, property of the FAI, Castellamonte, one of the Italian cities of ceramics, famous for its precious stoves, for its exhibition and works by Arnaldo Pomodoro and Ugo Nespolo, San Benigno Canavese with the Fruttuaria abbey, Pont Canavese with the Ferranda tower, Borgofranco d'Ivrea with the curious village of Balmetti, Pavone Canavese with its spectacular crenellated castle, Oglianico with its shelter and medieval “door tower”. The list could go on, but we leave it up to you to discover them on site!
Are you constantly on a diet?
Let yourself be won over by our FOOD AND WINE: you'll think about that once you get home!
The Canavese area, like all of Piedmont, is the cradle of extraordinary excellence!
This is the homeland of Erbaluce and Carema, two native, precious wines, with splendid vineyards that characterize the views of the most suitable areas: the "Canavesana pergola" is perfect for Erbaluce (first Piedmontese white DOC, now DOCG), very vigorous vine, of great versatility, which is available as still, classic method sparkling wine and passito (in this case with a longevity of over 40 years); the "topie" and "topiun" on the terraces, however, constitute the rural architecture on which the Nebbiolo Picotener grows, a red grape variety which, in the Carema Riserva, maintains excellent qualities over time.
It would be reductive, however, not to talk about Canavese Barbera, Canavese Nebbiolo (pure) and Canavese Rosso (a mix of grape varieties that peasant wisdom has always combined to capture the best peculiarities of each vine). Strada Reale dei Vini Torinesi and Strada dei Vigneti Alpini are the two great itineraries, in common with other areas of the province of Turin, to be able to approach this theme.
This is the home of Salam 'd Patata, which, rest assured, you cannot find anywhere else! And then, again, Toma della Valchiusella, Canestrelli (from Borgofranco, Montanaro, Tonengo), Torcetti (from Aglié), Torta 900 (from Ivrea).
If we combine all this with a varied basket of excellent raw materials, the result is dishes where tradition and innovation come together while maintaining respect for seasonality: Piedmontese mixed fried fish, tofeja, capunet, veal with tuna sauce, "supa 'd coj” (soup with bread and cabbage), bagna caoda, zabaglione…
